U-Media announces Open Grants Competition. Dealine for proposals' submition - December 30, 2015
Internews` Ukraine Media Project (U-Media) supported by USAID invites media organizations to submit grant proposals to a small grants competition. Within the small grants competition Internews will consider project proposals with the maximum budgets of $10,000 for up to 6-month projects focusing on U-Media`s priority types of activities. Deadline for submission of proposals: 23:59 Kyiv time on 30 December, 2015.

Відкритий грантовий конкурс "У-Медіа". Прийом заявок по 30 грудня 2015 року
Український медійний проект (У-Медіа), що виконується міжнародною неурядовою організацією Інтерньюз за підтримки Агентства США з міжнародного розвитку (USAID), запрошує до подання пропозицій на отримання малих грантів. В рамках відкритого грантового конкурсу Інтерньюз розглядатиме проектні заявки, бюджет яких не перевищуватиме 10 000 доларів США на період до 6 місяців, і які пропонуватимуть проекти в межах пріоритетів У-Медіа. Термін подання заявок: 30 грудня 2015 року, 23:59 за київським часом.

Internews published needs assessment report “UNDERSTANDING INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION NEEDS AMONG IDPs IN EASTERN UKRAINE that resulted from the 2-week trip of Internews Senior Humanitarian Advisor Jacobo Quintanilla and Internews Ukraine project manager Vitali Moroz to the East of Ukraine. From January 20-30, 2015, an Internews assessment team carried out a rapid assessment with displaced populations and host communities in eastern Ukraine to understand their information needs and access to communication channels.

U-Media prepared overview of recent important news related to media development in Ukraine: National Council on TV and Radio wants to receive the authority to temporarily suspend (for 3 months) the license of broadcasters whose work threatens the national security, territorial integrity and the lives and safety of citizens; Ukrainian Parliament registered draftlaw on amendments to the law on TV and Radio; IMI fixed 6 cases of physical agression against journalists; the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR) negotiated upon the journalists' work in Donbass area that is under the DNR control. Last week (December 18-24) media sector news of Ukraine: Anti-Monopoly Committee recognized the monopoly of digital TV signal provider Zeonbud, Crimean broadcaser Chernomorskaya TRC got back its arrested equipment from Crimean governors, suspecting NTN channel due to tax evasion, expansion of Ukrainian First National TV channel to Belarus, survey of media audience about media influence on political crises in Ukraine and other news.

Online Survey of Ukrainian Journalists in 2014 showed less censorship but still high influence of authorities on the content
August 2014 - Internews publisized an online survey of Ukrainian journalists to study journalists’ conception of standards of journalism, interaction with media audience, journalists’ perception of condition of freedom of speech, external and internal factors, that have an influence on quality of journalists’ work and implementation of their role in society, including labor relations, level of job compensation, ethical principles of journalism, level of journalists’ professional knowledge and knowledge of media legislation concerning access to public information, defamation, handling with personal data etc.
